As part of its Outdoor Education mandate, South Nation Conservation offers bilingual Outdoor Education programs each spring at Sandy Road Maple Farm. In exploring one of Canada’s oldest industries, participants in the Sugar Bush Education Program learn about the sugaring process from Aboriginal times to today. The history and science of maple syrup production becomes real through the use of First Nations historical artifacts. Introductions to tree identification, forest management and watersheds are included in a multi-disciplinary and fun-filled approach that reflects the Ontario curriculum. Other Outdoor Education programs available through South Nation Conservation are offered off-site and expand learning opportunities in areas of natural science, water conservation, and wildlife stewardship.
