Baxter Conservation Area
Each season brings special Outdoor Education programs to Baxter. With 68 hectares along the scenic Rideau River, Baxter boardwalks and trails navigate through wetlands, conifer and nut-tree plantations, mixed forest, and alder thickets. Exploration platforms, wetland look-outs, and interpretive signs guide visitors along the way. Baxter trails are perfect for hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. A picnic area, sand beach, and solar and renewable energy display expand experiential learning and discovery for student and community groups as well as the general public. Summer day camps let children experience nature, learn canoeing skills, and embark on environmental stewardship. Staffed and managed by the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority, Baxter offers quality, hands-on learning programs that give children a strong understanding of our natural world, how it functions, and how we, as humans, fit into it.
